Originally launched in 1963 as the Cosmograph, a manual-wind chronograph for race car drivers, the Cosmograph Daytona obtained its name two years later in 1965 when Rolex became the official timekeeper for the famed Daytona NASCAR race.

This remained a fairly low-production and unpopular model until the first automatic Daytona launched in 1988, after which sales began to soar and it became cemented as the coveted series that it is today. This was further propelled into history’s halls of fame in 2017 when a vintage model reference 6239 owned by actor Paul Newman sold for $17.8m, the most expensive wristwatch ever sold. Daytona’s are known for being unobtainable through Rolex authorised dealers the world over.

This modern example is presented in near-immaculate condition. The combination of steel, gold and black is truly stunning to behold in person and will certainly catch the eyes of passers-by. An incredibly capable watch whether you need to time your toast in the morning or add some flash to a black tie dinner suit.
