The ‘second-generation’ Day-Date, reference 6611, has a special place in Rolex history and was only in production for a mere few years and was entirely replaced by the 1960s. Thus making it a rare reference to own as it was made in such limited numbers.
Following on from the infamous first-generation 6510/6511 references, which were known for faults in the movement, the 6611 was an identical model but with a new heart, the new and improved Caliber 1055 movement.
This movement was special as it was the first to deliver the well-known dial text: Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, a new standard of testing to complement the existing COSC Chronometer certification.
