With a long and storied history spanning decades, the Rolex Datejust has seen more variations and updates than anyone can seem to fully capture in one place and is known to be one of the most successful watch lines in history.

This collection, in the world of 2024, can seem very clinical and “plain” on a backdrop of such a strong lineup of tool watches. However, within the vintage & neo-vintage eras of the Datejust you will find a seemingly endless trove of timeless and elegant designs that modern watches just can’t seem to capture.

The ability to exude class and quality whilst being made up of “primitive” build and materials by today’s standards like plexiglass crystals, folded links and a more lightweight design is something truly special that you will never find in a modern Datejust.

The “160XX” generation launched in 1977 and brought in a number of updates - most importantly the addition of a “quick-set date” feature, allowing users to adjust the date without having to manually turn time forward and slip into the future. This was incredibly helpful for those who hadn’t worn it for a few days and would have to spend ages winding through the hours.

This generation also did away with the so-called “pie-pan” dial in favour of a totally flat dial, and saw the movement updated to the Calibre 3035. This generation would see life until 1988 (this was one of the last ones made) so a fairly long production period, but not one without its own varied range of options!

This example is a 16013, which carries all of the above benefits, but was offered with a luxurious champagne dial, and a two-tone “Rolesor” case combining steel and 18k yellow gold with a fluted bezel. Plenty of “80s flash” from the height of the ‘yuppie’ era. Presented in excellent condition with original box and papers, plus our three month warranty!
