The Lady-Datejust is fairly self-explanatory - the smaller, more “bracelet” take on one of the best-selling wristwatch models of all time.
The special thing about this example, however, is the combination of not one, but two anniversary celebrations. Technically, it’s three if you’re being pedantic.
History lesson. The Datejust first released in 1945 to coincide with Rolex’s 40th anniversary or “jubilee” (see where this is going?). Alongside this release debuted a new five-link bracelet aptly named the “jubilee” bracelet.
Wind the clocks (or watches) forward 40 years and we have another anniversary - 40 years since the Datejust launched (duh), or, 80 years since Rolex came into the world. To celebrate, a new dial was produced, again aptly named the jubilee dial, featuring the name ROLEXROLEXROLEX repeated across the whole dial, very similar in design language to the 1980s Louis Vuittons and other luxury brands of the day.
