The 16613 is cherished among the collector community for its reputation of broadly being the “last of the best” in a long line of classic Submariners. Introduced in 1988, it was the last reference to feature the “classic” case with a slimmer profile before the “Super Case” was introduced with its much larger proportions.
This was also just the second reference to feature bi-metal design, with four variations - the traditional black dial & black bezel, two “Serti” dial models (gemstone indexes) and a blue dial with a blue bezel - the example we have made available today.
This configuration with its luxurious sunburst blue dial effect became so popular that when it was updated in years to come with a solid blue dial, the uproar was so great that Rolex backtracked to the sunburst again.
