Introduced in the late 1980s, the reference 16610 is seen by many as the peak of blending old Submariner with new.
This awesome five-digit reference, features the aluminium bezel and more elegant, slimline case profile with lug holes of old, but ushered in a taste of modern too. This model saw the depth rating increase from 200m of water resistance you won’t need to 300m of water resistance you DEFINITELY won’t need in the bathtub. You will also find a sapphire crystal and the long-serving 3135 movement happily at home here.
Furthermore, this era of the 16610 came just a handful of years after the banning of tritium luminescent markers, which were radioactive, so it features markers filled with LumiNova instead. This “paint” doesn’t age and degrade in the same way as tritium did so will still illuminate today and maintain its clean white hue, meaning you get true modern functionality but with a vintage-styled case.
