Everyone knows the Datejust, but not so many know of THIS Datejust.

At its debut in the 1950s, the Turn-o-Graph was the first entry from the Crown to featuring a rotating bezel, even pre-dating the GMT and Submariner. It is often credited as the pioneer of Rolex tool watches.

Another notch in history for this awesome model was its title as the first Rolex sports watch to feature a “Rolesor” (steel & gold) finish, a design trait synonymous with the brand even today. Initially just called the “Turn-o-Graph”, the model was updated to include “Datejust” on the dial to join the legendary best-selling family (though the Turn-o-Graph would see itself discontinued in the early 2010’s).

Initially a test-bed for the rotating bezel’s reception as a feature by the customer base, the Turn-o-Graph eventually earned its cult nickname, the “Thunderbird” when it became the de-facto timepiece of the US Air Force’s aerobatics squadron of the same name.
